Jul. 22nd, 2008 @ 10:06 am Introducing Harrah!

Hi everyone,

I was searching the internet trying to figure out what mix my newly adopted doggie, Harrah, might be.  I came across this group when searching for Aussie/Heeler mixes.  Judging by the looks of some of the other dogs, Harrah fits right in.

Harrah's 3 years old and weighs about 55 lb.  She is the sweetest and SMARTEST dog ever.  I'm blown away by how fast she learns things (good and bad, like how to get the treats off the counter when no one is looking :-)

Here are some pix of her in action and more at http://home.earthlink.net/~redbird77/Harrah2/index.html.

Dec. 9th, 2007 @ 11:10 am Zepplin Family Reunion!
So through a series of coincidences and what not, my roommate and I met Zepplin's brother Friday night.

We were leaving the dog park a couple weeks ago when one of the regulars chased us down. "I know this is going to sound really strange, but I have a note to give you guys" she stated. She rummaged through her backpack and took out a note saying how she saw a dog that looked like ours at a training demonstration she was at, and asked if our dog's name used to be a board game... Scrabble maybe?

Shocked we stated yes and read the note. The owners had left their phone number, saying how they adopted Fonzie, formerly known as Clue, from Wrightway Rescue on July 20th and asked if Zepplin was Scrabble.

After a series of missed phone calls we finally got ahold of them. After much back and forth we finally set a date for the two pups to reunite.

So last night my roommate and I went to the owner's place to meet them and Fonzie. They had a cute place, and made us a fabulous veggie dinner (salad with homemade dressing, bread with potatoe soup, a veggie cassarole, and pan chocolate chip bread).

It was so amazing how similar and yet how different the two of them were. Fonzie was somewhat territorial over his place and was bullying Zepplin around (which is usually what Zepplin does!) Fonzie's owner told us how he's normally really reserved around people he doesn't know, but speculated since this was his place he was going to be more dominant.

That was fine they were playing and there wasn't much rough housing done that I hadn't seen Zepplin do to other dogs at the dog park.

Personality wise well they seem different. Fonzie seems to have more of the cattle dog's knack to be weary of strangers. Zepplin will go up to anyone and anything, especially if treats are involved. Both of them have noxious gas, although I told Fonzie's owner about plain non fat yogurt. We've been doing that with Zepplin recently (stuffing it in his kong and freezing it with some of his breakfast for when I go to work actually) and his gas has gotten a lot better.

But I digress. The conclusion has come that they're probably cattle dogs mixed with some sort of terrier. I suspect rat terrier just because of how huge Zepplin's ears are. If Fonzie had had the huge bat ears and maybe a slight curled tail I would've stuck with the basenji, but at this point its obviously more rat terrier than anything.

Anyways as you can see by the following pictures, Fonzie has more cattle dog in his face structure than Zepplin does. However Fonzie has more of a "terrier ear flop" than... well Zepplin's is non existant. (Although rat terriers can have the huge obnoxious ears as well)

It was a lot of fun, and I look forward to setting up another date with them for the dogs to play with : )

Fonzie's owner got a lot better pictures than I did :P

Warning, massive picture overhaul.

Zepplin's mine, and he's the one with the obnoxiously huge ears.

There are also some pictures of Zepplin dressed up for Halloween...

Cattle dog mutt fun!Collapse )

x-posted a lot so sorry if you see this more than once.

Oct. 10th, 2007 @ 08:22 pm Basenji???
So. My room mate and I have had a revelation. The only thing we knew my dog, Zepplin, was, was a Australian Cattle dog. However his face isn't very cattle dog, and neither are the freakishly huge ears. At puppy class on Tuesday one of the people who helps with the training showed us his dog that passed away, due to Zepplin's huge ears. He said Zepplin reminded him a lot of his dog and showed us pictures. The ears were huge! Exactly like Zepplin's freakish bat ears. We asked what he was and got the response of "Basenji".

I looked online and they're 22-26lbs, and the face looks uncanny to my dog's. I'm convinced that this is the other part of my pooper. What do you guys think?

Zeppy!!Collapse )

Cross posted like whoah, so sorry if you see this a lot.

Aug. 11th, 2007 @ 02:13 pm Ear Identity Crisis
Just an update on lil' Zepplin. Well more of an ear update. My boyfriend and I were curious as to how his ears would turn out. One did start to perk up and then the next day both were up ala complete ACD.

I am bat dog, and I can fly!!!Collapse )

His ears were like that for a little over a week. However on Wednesday the one ear just flopped back down, much to my amusement. I think its because he met his brother Ody on Tuesday [my parents' beagle] and the beagle in him was like "Wait a minute... my ears are supposed to be down!?"

Beagle or ACD ears? Don't know anymore...Collapse )

Not that it really matters overall. He's cute regardless. It shall be interesting to see if he ends up going either way!

Hi all, just making an introduction post, to introduce my new baby, Zepplin. He's a blue heeler/beagle mix, altho' honestly, I have a hard time seeing the beagle in him :P

He's a little spit fire, prone to having zoomies, but he gets lots and lots of walks, and when old enough will be enrolling him in agility classes.

He's a real sweetie, and when we went to adopt him a few weeks ago, was merely laying in his cage with sad puppy dog eyes as other dogs went crazy at the cages. He's already catching sit, and more or less grasps the concept of not going to the bathroom in the house. He forgets, but its slowly getting better.

This looks like a really cool community and I look forward to future posts!

These were taken last Saturday. As of now his ears are always up, never floppy. My boyfriend is slightly saddened as he thought he was cuter with the floppy ears. I love the lil' monster either way :P [both dog and boyfriend...]

You may have noticed that I haven't been around live journal very much lately, and this community has been a little lacking in the management department. If anyone would like to be a shiny new administrator of this community, just comment and let me know... I can't do it anymore, so I'll find someone else for the job... :D

Oct. 2nd, 2006 @ 09:24 am River & her new friend

The two of them are just the best of friends, though, it's so cute.  Sometimes when they play the cat gets his whole head inside River's mouth and she is so gentle.  She never snaps at the cat, even when he comes to check out what she's eating at dinner time.  And not even when Stewie is hanging off her leg, chewing on it, when he wants to play and she doesn't =D

Hello! I joined a community for black cats today, so I thought it'd only be fair to join a community for my doggy as well!

Daisy is approximately 1 1/2 years old, and is the sweetest dog on the earth. She's an Australian Shepherd/Beagle mix. We don't know her full story, but she was a stray that was found, put into a West Virginia Humane Society, rescued from there, sent to Vermont, fostered, and adopted by us! She has obviously been abused sometime in her past, as she's afraid of loud noises, and quick movements, but she's such a sweetheart. She loves attention, and she loves to love. She's definitely my baby.

Aug. 31st, 2006 @ 07:14 am Hello!
I just found this community yesterday when I was randomly searching, I think it was in a search for "rescued dogs" that I came across this place.

Anyway, I thought I'd show you all my girl, River: (She's named after the girl from Firefly)

So, that's our story =D

Hiya all, I just joined this community the other day. As of Monday, my boyfriend and I are the proud parents of an Aussie mix puppy. She's 10 weeks old and her name is Wrangler. She's such a sweetie, and very playful. She loves people and wants to go with us everywhere - she likes riding in the Jeep, playing with the horses at the barn, visiting my friends on campus, and relaxing at the Coffee House with us. :) She was also a real trooper when we took her to the vet yesterday for her first exam and shots. For being an outside dog before we got her, she's luckily in very good health and already house-broke for the most part (although she doesn't like going potty when my boyfriend takes her outside it seems, only when I take her out will she reliably go potty - so now that we've figured that out, hopefully there won't be another accident in the house). Today we're gonna take her to Petsmart to get a free training consulation and see about enrolling her in the puppy education class. Anyway, enough with the talk, I'm sure you guys want to see photos. :p I only have a couple pictures of her uploaded for now, but there will definitely be more to come. :}

now, on to the pictures!Collapse )

sorry this is crossposted a bunch of places, I'm just all excited and everything, and so glad to finally have a dog again that I can brag about in all the dog communities on LJ heh
