So through a series of coincidences and what not, my roommate and I met Zepplin's brother Friday night.
We were leaving the dog park a couple weeks ago when one of the regulars chased us down. "I know this is going to sound really strange, but I have a note to give you guys" she stated. She rummaged through her backpack and took out a note saying how she saw a dog that looked like ours at a training demonstration she was at, and asked if our dog's name used to be a board game... Scrabble maybe?
Shocked we stated yes and read the note. The owners had left their phone number, saying how they adopted Fonzie, formerly known as Clue, from Wrightway Rescue on July 20th and asked if Zepplin was Scrabble.
After a series of missed phone calls we finally got ahold of them. After much back and forth we finally set a date for the two pups to reunite.
So last night my roommate and I went to the owner's place to meet them and Fonzie. They had a cute place, and made us a fabulous veggie dinner (salad with homemade dressing, bread with potatoe soup, a veggie cassarole, and pan chocolate chip bread).
It was so amazing how similar and yet how different the two of them were. Fonzie was somewhat territorial over his place and was bullying Zepplin around (which is usually what Zepplin does!) Fonzie's owner told us how he's normally really reserved around people he doesn't know, but speculated since this was his place he was going to be more dominant.
That was fine they were playing and there wasn't much rough housing done that I hadn't seen Zepplin do to other dogs at the dog park.
Personality wise well they seem different. Fonzie seems to have more of the cattle dog's knack to be weary of strangers. Zepplin will go up to anyone and anything, especially if treats are involved. Both of them have noxious gas, although I told Fonzie's owner about plain non fat yogurt. We've been doing that with Zepplin recently (stuffing it in his kong and freezing it with some of his breakfast for when I go to work actually) and his gas has gotten a lot
But I digress. The conclusion has come that they're probably cattle dogs mixed with some sort of terrier. I suspect rat terrier just because of how huge Zepplin's ears are. If Fonzie had had the huge bat ears and maybe a slight curled tail I would've stuck with the basenji, but at this point its obviously more rat terrier than anything.
Anyways as you can see by the following pictures, Fonzie has more cattle dog in his face structure than Zepplin does. However Fonzie has more of a "terrier ear flop" than... well Zepplin's is non existant. (Although rat terriers can have the huge obnoxious ears as well)
It was a lot of fun, and I look forward to setting up another date with them for the dogs to play with : )
Fonzie's owner got a lot better pictures than I did :P
Warning, massive picture overhaul.
Zepplin's mine, and he's the one with the obnoxiously huge ears.
There are also some pictures of Zepplin dressed up for Halloween...( Cattle dog mutt fun!Collapse )
x-posted a lot so sorry if you see this more than once.
